When I go to Chinese restaurants with my Western friends, they would ask me what to order according to Chinese custom.

If you ask any Chinese what kind of dishes make up a meal (for example), most Chinese people would simply say 'four dishes and one soup'.

I am not sure when such a concept of a meal became so popular in China, but that is what is considered as a standard meal. Of course there are many variations from family to family, and depending on the situation (for example, how many people at the table, what you can afford, and so on).

These 'four dishes' typically include a meat dish, a fish dish, and a vegetable dish. The fourth dish can be of your choice. Although this is not a rule by any means, if we have guests at home or go to restaurants, this is normally what we would order. The stable food is usually boiled rice.

And as for how many dishes we would actually prepare, we normally say three dishes for two people, six dishes for five people, and so on: always one or two more than heads. This may strike you as too many, but given that we do not have starters nor cake as desserts in China, it is not unreasonable.

Oh, and it is not a bad thing if there are left overs. Although your host would be happy seeing you finish and enjoy all the dishes, they would also get worried and think the food was not enough. If you ever get invited to have dinner with a Chinese family, never finish all the food on the table, otherwise your host will panic, go to the kitchen and start cooking again.

And I like the idea of ​​sharing, because like this, everyone can taste different food on the table. Of course, if you do not like the idea of ​​everyone using their own chopsticks to pick up the food from the same plate, you can always use a different spoon for each plate.

I’m living on my own, so I’ve had to figure out a way to make multiple dishes (so I don’t get bored) without having to spend too much money on 32312 different ingredients I might not use often. the solution for me was to go Asian. I love cooking asian food of all kinds because they’re very easy to customize, make, and cheap. you really only need a few ingredients. So here, I have my favourite dishes that I’ve been making while not living at home: Vietnamese vermicelli noodles with fish sauce, stir fried rice, stir fried vegetables, and Korean BBQ inspired bean sprouts.

Of course all these recipes are not super specific. They are all customizable to you palette. They make taste different depending on what you grew up with, but just taste it as you go because every family and individual makes these different. This is just how I like to make these dishes.

3 Unbelievable ASIAN NOODLE DISHES – Honeysuckle

Each recipe would make 3-4 servings. They are all great to pack for lunch or just to take in for meal on a 7 days night!

Jajangmyeon Recipe:
– 1/4 cup fermented black bean paste
– 1 tsp sesame oil
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 2 cloves minced garlic
– 1 tsp minced ginger
– 1/2 lb ground turkey (or pork)
– salt & pepper
– 1/2 cup diced onion
– 1 diced zucchini
– 1 diced gold potato
– 1 1/4 cups hen broth
– 1 tsp kosher salt
– slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water)
– refreshing knife-minimize noodles
– refreshing cucumber

1) In a hot pan add the sesame oil and olive oil. Enable it warmth up then add the black bean paste and roast.
2) In the hot pan roast the chopped garlic and ginger till fragrant. Then add the ground turkey (or pork) and cook till nearly done.
3) add the diced onions, zucchini, and potatoes, salt, and last but not least the roasted black bean sauce. Incorporate the slurry to thicken. Prepare dinner for a couple of minutes.
4) put together noodles according to package deal directions. Drain and add to a bowl. Leading with sauce and cucumber to garnish.

Korean Fried Noodles:
– 2 cloves minced garlic
– 1 tsp minced ginger
– 2 tbsp soy sauce
– 1 tsp sesame oil
– 1 tsp rice wine vinegar
– 1 tsp gochugaru
– 1 tsp honey
– 1 tbsp gochujang
– 1 tbsp water
– 2 stalks eco-friendly onion, chopped
– 1/2 lb pork stomach (or loin, hen, tofu), thinly sliced
– sesame oil
– kosher salt
– gochugaru
– 1 cup kimchi
– refreshing knife-minimize noodles
– fried egg
– sesame seeds

1) in a bowl mix together the minced garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, gochugaru, honey, gochujang, and water. This is a great simple Korean marinade, great for numerous factors.
2) in a hot pan add some sesame oil and add the sliced pork. Incorporate pinches of salt and gochugaru and cook for a moment just before incorporating the chopped eco-friendly onions and kimchi.
3) cook for a moment or two then add cooked noodles and the korean sauce. Prepare dinner for another moment.
4) provide with a fried egg and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced eco-friendly onions.

Thai Peanut Noodle Salad with Steak:
– 2 cloves minced garlic
– 1 tsp brown sugar
– 1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
– 1 1/2 fish sauce
– 1 tbsp olive oil
– 1/2 lime’s juice
– 1 lb top rated sirloin steak, cubed
– 1/4 cup peanut butter
– 1 clove minced garlic
– 1 tsp minced ginger
– 1 tsp brown sugar
– 1 tsp chili garlic sauce
– 2 tbsp soy sauce
– 1/2 lime’s juice
– 1/2 cup sliced purple cabbage
– 1/2 cup shredded zucchini
– 1/2 cup shredded carrot
– knife-minimize noodles
– chopped peanuts
– cilantro

1) in a bowl mix the minced garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, olive oil, and lime juice. This is the steak marinade.
2) marinade the steak cubes 1 hour to right away. Then skewer the steak them and grill every facet for 1-2 minutes depending on your preferred temperature. Enable rest at minimum 20 minutes.
3) in a bowl mix the peanut butter, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, chili garlic sauce, soy sauce, and lime juice. This is our peanut sauce.
